About us

BABCP is the lead organisation for Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) in the UK and Ireland and has an extensive and growing CBT community. Established over 40 years ago as an interest group for people involved in the practice and theory of behaviour therapy, we have grown to a membership of more than 12,000 members as well as increasing the scope of our work.

The current membership reflects the broad range of disciplines of those involved in applying behavioural and cognitive approaches to the wide variety of human issues.

Many of our members are volunteers and help facilitate the work we do through a variety of networks including our Branches and Special Interest Groups.

Our organisation promotes the theory and practice of Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies by

  • providing continuing professional development opportunities
  • facilitating networks and forums for the dissemination and discussion of Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies among members and the general public
  • Maintaining standards for practitioners of Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapy
  • Representing the interests of behavioural and cognitive psychotherapists through liaison with public and professional bodies
  • Publishing and circulating academic resources and publications aimed at disseminating research and information about the applications of Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies.
